HEADLAND HOLIDAY VILLAGE - NEWQUAY 40 Self-contained Holiday Bungalows heated with Propane Gas Boilers individually controlled from the reception desk The newly-built Headland Holiday Village has been designed to provide the very best in self contained holiday accommodation with stunning views over the shoreline of the popular resort of Newquay. The holiday village, designed by the owners of the well-established Headland Hotel, is in a dramatic cliff-top location within the grounds, and is intended to offer the privacy of self contained accommodation, yet in close proximity to the convenience of hotel facilities. This presented particular energy control and monitoring challenges. Unlike short stay hotel guests, holiday visitors require different heating patterns, particularly as the bungalows are to be let all year it was clear a flexible control strategy had to be applied. Prefect Controls experience in the hotel and student residential markets provided a useful insight to the expectation of the heating and hot water system, as well as a clear understanding of the operators' need to manage cost. Working closely with the client and his electrical contractor, Prefect suggested the PRE2000 central control system to satisfy the control requirements whilst avoiding uneconomic costs. The unique ability of the PRE2000 Series to interface with the hotels' management computer, made the system easy to use whilst providing control over time of operation in individual bungalows and temperature all year round. Further automation was possible by linking into the 'Booking programme' in the hotel computer, enabling the system to anticipate arrivals and to raise temperatures to comfort level in individual bungalows when occupied, and to reduce to set-back when vacant. The system transmits command signals along the existing mains network (Mains Borne Signalling). As installation involves no pilot wiring, the system was installed in just a couple of hours, and easily handled within the electrical contractor's work schedule. Extension to allow for a further 29 bungalows will be equally simple.
